Cotton diapers vs. regular diapers

If you’ve searched for cotton diapers in Dubai or Sharjah, you’ve probably found two very different things: reusable cloth nappies, and disposables that say they feel as soft as cotton. Here’s what each one really is.

What to look for on a pack of cotton diapers

  • “100% cotton” top sheet, not “cotton-like” or “cotton-soft”.
  • No added lotion or fragrance.
  • Latex-free elastics at the legs and waist.
  • Totally chlorine-free (TCF) pulp in the absorbent core.
  • A breathable backsheet that lets air out.
  • Lab-tested and certified for sale in the UAE.

What are cotton diapers?

“Cotton diapers” can mean two things. Cloth diapers are reusable and washed at home. Cotton-lined disposables, like CottonDiaper, have a 100% cotton top sheet, so your baby feels real cotton while you keep the ease of a disposable.

Why parents choose cotton

Cotton is a natural fibre that feels soft and lets air through. Many parents simply prefer it next to their baby’s skin. Cotton isn’t a treatment for nappy rash: if your baby has a rash that doesn’t clear, or a skin condition, talk to your paediatrician.

Cotton diapers in the UAE heat

Heat and humidity make every diaper feel warmer. Changing a little more often in summer, choosing breathable materials and letting skin air between changes all help keep babies comfortable.

Choosing the right size

Choose by weight, not age. CottonDiaper comes in seven sizes, from Newborn to Size 6 (16–20 kg). Between sizes, or seeing red marks at the legs or waist? Move up a size.

Dear parents,

CottonDiaper started with a simple question: why is the layer that touches a baby’s skin so rarely real cotton?

So we made a diaper with a 100% cotton top sheet, left out the lotions and fragrances, and promised never to use a child’s photo to sell it.

We’re a small team in Sharjah, and we read every message. Thank you for being here at the very start.

No, and we’ll always say so. The top sheet, the layer that touches your baby, is 100% cotton. Beneath it are a quick-wick layer, an absorbent core and a breathable backsheet, so it works like the disposables you know.

Some are. Cloth diapers are reusable and washed at home. Cotton-lined diapers like CottonDiaper are disposable and used once.

They’re different. A cotton-lined diaper puts real cotton next to the skin, where most regular diapers use plastic fibre with a cotton-like finish. Which suits you depends on what matters most to your family.
